# Fringe

*A fringe is a decorative border of hanging threads or cords, either formed from the fabric’s own threads or made separately and sewn on.*

A fringe can be the [warp](https://teazle.art/glossary/warp.md) left loose at the end of a woven piece, knotted or twisted, or a separate trim from the [passementerie](https://teazle.art/glossary/passementerie.md) maker. Fringe moves with the body, which made it the signature of 1920s dance dresses.
