# Organza

*Organza is a sheer, crisp plain-woven fabric made from tightly twisted filament yarns, traditionally silk.*

Organza is a transparent fabric that, unlike [chiffon](https://teazle.art/glossary/chiffon.md), is stiff. Its fine, highly twisted yarns are woven in a [plain weave](https://teazle.art/glossary/plain-weave.md), giving a wiry crispness that holds sculptural shapes and layers.

## How is it used?

In couture for overlays, sleeves and structured skirts, and inside garments as an invisible support. Silk organza is also a dressmaker’s tool: it makes a stable, see-through interlining and a pressing cloth.
