# Tulle

*Tulle is a lightweight, very fine net fabric, used for veils, ballet skirts and layered evening dress.*

Tulle is a fine mesh, usually with hexagonal holes, made of silk, nylon or other fibres. It is named after the French town of Tulle, long associated with lace and net making. Because it is light and almost weightless, it can be gathered in many layers to build volume.

## How is it different from net or lace?

Tulle is a plain, machine-made net with no pattern of its own. Lace has a design; bobbin lace and machine laces may use a tulle-like ground behind their motifs.
