# Weft

*The weft is the set of threads passed crosswise over and under the warp to form a woven fabric.*

The weft, also called the woof or filling, runs across the width of the cloth from one [selvage](https://teazle.art/glossary/selvage.md) to the other. Each pass is called a pick. In most cloths the weft and [warp](https://teazle.art/glossary/warp.md) together make the structure; in [tapestry](https://teazle.art/glossary/tapestry.md) and [brocade](https://teazle.art/glossary/brocade.md), extra or discontinuous wefts make the pattern.
