Battenberg lace
Battenberg lace is a tape lace in which a machine-made tape is shaped into a design and joined with needle-made bars and fillings.
In tape laces such as Battenberg, a woven tape is tacked onto a pattern along its lines, folded around the curves, and the spaces are filled with needle-made stitches. The technique, popular in the late nineteenth century, imitated older and costlier needle laces.
