Gauze

Gauze is a thin, translucent fabric with an open weave, sometimes stabilised by twisting pairs of warp threads around each other.

Gauze is cloth woven so loosely that you can see through it. In true leno or gauze weave, pairs of warp threads twist around each weft, locking the open structure in place so the threads do not slide.

How has it been used?

For veils, sleeves, light summer dress and, in plain cotton form, for bandages. Silk gauzes were an important luxury textile in China for centuries.
