How to read a filet chart
Filet crochet builds a picture from a grid of squares. A filled square is a block, worked in solid stitches; an empty square is a space, an open mesh. Each square is three stitches wide, so a row of N squares is 3 × N + 1 stitches. Charts are read from the bottom row up and worked back and forth, which is why the row numbers alternate sides.
