Valenciennes lace
Also: Val lace
Valenciennes lace is a flat bobbin lace made in one piece, with design and ground worked together and no outlining thread.
Valenciennes, named after the town in northern France, is worked in a single operation so its motifs lie flat and smooth on a fine mesh. Without a raised outline it is light and washable, which made it a favourite edging for underwear, collars and baby clothes.
