Crêpe

Crêpe is a fabric with a crinkled, grainy surface, made by using very highly twisted yarns or special weaves or finishes.

Crêpe gets its pebbly texture from yarns twisted so tightly that they kink as the cloth relaxes, or from a crêpe weave that scatters the interlacings. The result is matt, springy and drapes well.

What types are there?

Crêpe de Chine (light silk), crêpe georgette (sheer), wool crêpe for tailoring, and the dense crêpe-backed satin that is matt on one side and shiny on the other. Black crêpe was long the fabric of mourning dress.
