Trapunto
Also: Italian quilting
Trapunto is a stuffed quilting technique in which parts of a design are padded from the back so they stand out in relief.
In trapunto, two layers are stitched along the outlines of a design, then small cuts or gaps in the backing are used to push extra filling into chosen shapes. The result is a raised, sculpted pattern. It is often called Italian quilting.
