Dressmaker
Also: modiste, seamstress
A dressmaker is a person who makes clothes, especially women’s dresses, to measure.
Dressmakers, often women, made most fashionable women’s clothing before ready-to-wear, cutting and fitting each garment for the client. The couturier’s claim to design, not just make, grew out of this trade.
