Atelier

An atelier is a workshop or studio; in fashion, the workrooms of a couture house where garments are made by hand.

A couture house traditionally has two kinds of atelier: the flou, for soft dressmaking in light fabrics, and the tailleur, for structured tailoring. Each is led by a première who translates the designer’s sketch or toile into a finished garment.
